New team

As of 1st December 2014 there is a new team in place to manage the DofE in the ACF. Lt Col Alistair Spowage has now retired, to be replaced as Development Manager by Lucy Welch, and as Chairman of the DofE Panel by Col Ashley Fulford. This website will no longer be updated, and information will now be available on Westminster.

New Trophy for the most effective DofE County


On retirement, outgoing Chairman of the DofE Panel, Lt Col Alistair Spowage presented to ACFA a Quaich for annual presentation to the ACF County with the best record of DofE leadership training and completed awards. The first winners are Northumbria ACF, and the trophy was collected by DofE Officer Major Alan Thompson

Outstanding Service Award to Major John Harmes


The DofE Advisory Panel Chairman presented Major John Harmes of Sussex ACF with the Panels Certificate of Outstanding Service to Army Cadets and the DofE. John gained this prestigious award for dedicated service to both Sussex ACF and to DofE leadership training at various venues throughout southern England.

ACFA Presidential Commendations


Incoming Chairman of the DofE Panel, Col Ashley Fulford, presented Commendations for outstanding service to the DofE Panel from the ACFA President to Major Steve Frost (12 years), Major Alan Thompson (15 yrs), Major Robin Jones (17 yrs), Capt Tony Bloor (20 yrs), Lt Col Roberta Turkington (20 yrs), Lt Col Alistair Spowage (32 yrs) and Lt Col Mike Gerrish (35 yrs)

Soldier's Hornpipe!


An emotional Lt Col Alistair Spowage was presented on his retirement with the manuscript of a pipe tune, The Spowages of Menstrie, commissioned by the Advisory Panel from Major Jim Stout, former Queens Piper. Jim played the tune for the first time to an appreciative audience in Marlborough Hall and was rewarded in the time-honoured manner with a wee dram from the quaich.

Everything coming up roses


Having earlier planted a commemorative In Action Together rose in the Frimley Park gardens to mark 32 years of ADS involvement at CTC, Lt Col Alistair Spowage later presented Octavia Hill roses to outgoing Advisors Robin Jones (Wales) and Clint Riley (London and SE Anglia) with thanks from the Panel, who also presented Alistair and his wife Lindsey with Octavia Hill and Duke of Edinburgh roses.

Conference 2014


Col Ashley Fulford pulled together yet another successful Conference of over 50 delegates, where the opportunity was taken to dine out Lt Col Alistair Spowage, after almost 40 years of ACF service. Col Alistair was keen to use the event to highlight the exceptional contribution to DofE in the ACF made by the many committed leaders throughout the UK, and particularly to the Advisory Panel. Thanks to Capt Michael Nolan for the photographs.

Certificate and Supervisor Training at Holcombe Moor


Greater Manchester ACF were hosts to a weekend of both a Certificate in DofE Leadership and an Expedition Supervisor Training course provided by members of the DofE Advisory Panel

Sussex Going for Gold


Major John Harmes and his training team from Sussex ACF supported four Gold teams on their expeditions on Dartmoor this summer. Here they are being supported by a gate before the start of their adventure.
